Hola Mahalla is basically Sikh festival, which mainly
celebrated in March. Celebration of Hola Mahalla includes various displays of
fighting prowess and bravery. On Hola kirtan, music and poetry is conducted for
the day. The words Hola Mohalla basically means the charge of an army. If wishes come in rainbow colors then, I would send the brightest one to say Happy Hola Mohalla!!
Hola is quite different from Holi, the Hindu spring festival
of colours it basically held a day before Hola Mahalla. Celebration of Hola is
also different from Holi. Actual celebration of the day at Anandpur Sahib, but
it is also celebrated in many other Gurdwaras including Kiratpur Sahib. People
do play with colored powders, they also use coloured water. Hola Mahalla became
an annual event held in an open ground near Holgarh, northwest of Anandpur
sahib.
